Trucking mergers and acquisitions and the freight market have built momentum through 2026 after a multi-year slump, driving optimism about an incoming surge of transactions. The recovery has not been broad-based, however, and activity has remained selective.

Gaurang Shastri, Lincoln International Managing Director, shared his insights into the sector’s outlook with Transport Topics. He reports that buyers are gravitating toward businesses that offer differentiated capabilities and defensible market positions.

“The simplest way to describe today’s market is that buyers are acquiring capabilities rather than capacity. They’re looking for platforms that expand their service offerings, deepen customer relationships and provide access to attractive, resilient end markets,” said Gaurang.
