Gsquare Capital has sold the Swedish primary care business of Unicare to Prima Vård
Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, Unicare, backed by healthcare private equity investor G Square, is one of the largest private healthcare and care service providers in the Nordics. Unicare Sweden, the group’s Swedish subsidiary, operates 11 registered primary care clinics across 14 locations in southern and central Sweden with more than 100,000 listed patients as well as an occupational health business serving corporate customers. The clinics offer a broad range of services including general specialists, district nurse, diabetes, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), mental illness, childcare, maternity care and rehabilitation.
Lincoln acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Unicare, working closely with the group and subsidiary level management teams and shareholders through a swift auction sale process. The transaction completed with a sale to Lideta Hälsovård, now Prima Care, a portfolio company of Nordstjernan, and solidifies the acquirer’s position as the third largest provider of primary care in Sweden.
Gunnar Brundin, Managing Director in Lincoln’s Stockholm office, states, “The Nordic primary care market is undergoing rapid change driven by the growth of digi-physical care models, but it also faces challenges linked to staff shortages. We approached this transaction by emphasizing Unicare Sweden’s leading clinical quality, strong employee satisfaction and entrenched positions in its different local markets, which combined with the sheer scale of the business, made it a scarce and highly strategic asset for domestic and international consolidators. We are pleased with the outcome and see a great future for the combined businesses of Unicare Sweden and Prima.”
Lincoln’s deep sector expertise and intimate buyer knowledge, in combination with highly efficient execution, resulted in an outstanding outcome for us and our shareholders.
