Skylar Beauty has been sold to Starco Brands
Based in Los Angeles, Skylar Beauty was founded in 2017 by Catherine (Cat) Chen, the brand’s Chief Executive Officer. With the launch of Skylar, Cat’s mission was to create a clean fragrance and lifestyle brand focused on 100% ingredient transparency. Today, Skylar is recognized as the leading provider of clean, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free and sustainably packaged fragrance products that include eau de parfums, candles and body care products.
Skylar evolved from its digitally native roots to develop a strategic, omni-channel distribution strategy. The company grew its devoted customer base with Scent Club, a one-of-a-kind direct-to-consumer subscription offering available on its interactive website, eventually becoming the world’s largest clean fragrance subscription and the only mono-branded subscription offering in the category. Skylar is also sold on Amazon and in leading specialty beauty retailers and department stores such as Sephora and Nordstrom.
This transaction continues Lincoln International’s track record of branded beauty and personal care deals, as well as the firm’s longstanding history of completing successful transactions for owner-entrepreneurs. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Chris Petrossian, Managing Director and co-head of Lincoln’s Consumer Group, commented, “We are so excited for Cat and the impressive business she founded and grew. It was a pleasure working with the shareholders and management in this important transaction for Skylar’s evolution. We look forward to following the next chapter of the Skylar story as they continue to grow and enter into new categories and channels as part of Starco Brands.”
Ashleigh Barker, Director in Lincoln’s Consumer Group who leads the beauty practice, commented, “Skylar Beauty was an early mover in bringing clean formulations and ingredient transparency to the fragrance category, a sector that has experienced tremendous growth over the last 18 months with no signs of slowing down as consumers are increasingly investing in clean fragrance offerings as part of their well-being routines. Building on this momentum, Skylar has set a new standard when it comes to seeking out the best ingredients, most sustainable packaging solutions and most innovative purchasing formats through its proprietary Scent Club offering. As a part of Starco Brands, we are confident that Skylar will be well-positioned to reach new heights, new customers and new geographies with this differentiated ethos.”
