OpenCEL has been sold to Trojan Technologies

Lincoln International, a leading global mid-market investment bank, has announced that OpenCEL, LLC (“OpenCEL” or the “Company”) has been sold to Trojan Technologies (“Trojan”), a subsidiary of Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR). The OpenCEL business will operate as a division of US Peroxide, a Trojan business headquartered in Atlanta, GA. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“This is a high-technology business that will continue to support US Peroxide’s goal of helping to optimize customer operations,” says Tom Walkosak, general manager, US Peroxide. “The OpenCEL technology reduces the cost of handling biosolids, while also increasing methane production that can be used beneficially within the plant or to generate electricity on site – this makes facilities more self-sustainable.”

US Peroxide is the leading provider of peroxygen-based technologies and performance-driven, full-service environmental treatment programs to help purify water, wastewater, soil and air. They specialize in turn-key solutions for municipal wastewater and drinking water treatment; refinery, oil, gas, and petrochemical applications; industrial wastewater and air quality treatment; remediation; and UV-oxidation applications.

According to Trojan President Marv Devries, OpenCEL adds more value to customers. “For more than 30 years, we have been providing environmentally sustainable solutions for customers that reduce electricity usage, space and costs. Acquisition of the OpenCEL business renews this intent by providing an additional solution that helps solve customer’s increasingly complex water quality and environmental challenges.”

This acquisition allows the Trojan Technologies group of businesses to continue to create and build on a foundation of offering sustainable, effective solutions that ensure greater water confidence and environmental stewardship for industry and global municipalities.

Lincoln acted as the financial advisor to OpenCEL, working closely with the management team throughout the sale process.

About OpenCEL

Utilized for pretreating wastewater sludge prior to anaerobic digestion, the technology employs high frequency electrical pulses to break open biomass cell membranes, releasing soluble material that is more readily digested and converted to energy, reducing the amount of biosolids that are produced and disposed.
