As a co-head of Lincoln’s U.S. Financial Institutions Group, Jay is a strategic advisor to owners of financial services companies with a focus on insurance services, asset and wealth management and specialty lending companies. Jay has nearly 25 years of M&A, capital raising and capital formation experience working on transactions for private equity owners, family and entrepreneur owners and corporations in the U.S. as well as Europe, Latin America and Asia. Jay’s experience includes sell-side and buy-side transactions, cross-border advisory and recapitalizations, raising public and private capital as well as buying and investing in a wide range of financial services companies. In addition, Jay has worked with investors to raise capital in a wide variety of formats including retail and insurance dedicated funds as well as fund mergers and recapitalizations.
Throughout his career, Jay has worked on a wide range of financial services transactions including in the broker dealer, financial payments, commodity trading, regulated depository, regulated insurance and other types of companies. He has developed deep expertise in the regulatory matters facing asset and wealth managers as well as insurance companies in the U.S., Europe and other offshore jurisdictions. Recent representative transactions include advising Altamont on the investment in Horizon Investments, P10 on their initial public offering, Benefit Street Partners on their sale to Franklin Resources, Invesco on the acquisition of Oppenheimer and Ares Capital on the acquisition of American Capital.
Prior to joining Lincoln, Jay led the Diversified Financials Investment Banking team with Stephens Inc. Jay started his career at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he worked for more than 20 years in New York, Frankfurt and London.
Jay earned a Master of Business Administration (with honors) from the University of Virginia where he is a member of the Raven Society and a Bachelor of Science from Duke University.
