Lincoln International represents Alcoa in the sale of its European aluminum structural die-casting, profile and spaceframe assembly business to strategic acquirers in two separate transactions
Frankfurt, April 2010 - Lincoln International acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Alcoa Inc. ("Alcoa") in the sale of its business unit Transportation Products Europe ("ATPE"), located in Germany, Hungary and Italy to the owner of BDW technologies GmbH ("BDW") and to Officine Meccaniche Rezzatesi S.p.a. ("OMR"). ATPE encompasses an aluminum die-casting and profile business located in Soest and Frickenhausen, Germany and Székesfehervár, Hungary as well as a dedicated manufacturing and assembly facility located in Modena, Italy.
Alcoa's aluminum die-casting and profile business primarily manufactures and assembles lightweight aluminum die-cast structures, profiles and components for high-performance brands such as Ferrari, Audi, Porsche and Jaguar. The Business employs almost 300 employees in Germany and Hungary. It was sold to the owner of BDW technologies GmbH. BDW, formerly owned by Alcan Inc. and located in Markt Schwaben, Germany, is a specialist in high pressure aluminum, automotive die-casting, focused on higher volume manufacturing of structural and powertrain components. The business combination will create the leading aluminum structural parts business in Europe.
Alcoa's Modena business is a dedicated manufacturing site catering for Ferrari as sole supplier generating revenues of Euro 33 million in 2009. The Business boasts state-of-the-art, fully automated production lines machining and assembling aluminum spaceframes for all Ferrari models currently in the market. It was sold to OMR Group, a strategic supplier of Ferrari, headquartered in Brescia, Italy with approximately 2.500 employees worldwide.
These transactions represent the third and fourth divestiture project handled by Lincoln International for Alcoa over the last 12 months and the seventh successful deal handled by Lincoln Germany in 2010. They also underpin the strength of Lincoln International in the automotive segment with 15 transactions closed globally since 2008.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
