Lincoln International appoints Francis Fernandes as Advisory Director to its market-leading UK Pensions Advisory business

Lincoln International, the independent mid-market investment bank, has appointed former Citigroup banker Francis Fernandes as Advisory Director to its market-leading Pensions Advisory business.  Francis most recently headed the European pension business of Bridge Pointe Insurance (a Bermudan reinsurer).

Francis was previously Head of European Pensions at Citigroup.  In this role he provided pension risk-management advice to the bank’s clients.  He was also involved in many ground-breaking transactions including Thomson Regional Newspapers Pension Fund (the first non-insured buy-out of a pension fund by a bank) and the Powell Duffryn Pension Plan liability transfer (the largest pension buy-out at that time).  Francis also worked on M&A deals where pensions posed a material risk.

Francis is a regular press commentator and speaker at pensions conferences.  He has provided support to many pension regulators around the world on areas including the buy-out market, contingent assets and risk-transfer models.

Francis qualified as an actuary at Watson Wyatt after reading Mathematics at St Catherine's College, Oxford University.  After working at Towers Perrin and lecturing in Actuarial Science at London’s City University, he joined consulting actuaries, Lane Clark & Peacock where he was a partner and Head of Pensions Research.

In joining Lincoln International, Francis Fernandes is reunited with former colleague Alex Hutton-Mills with whom he worked at Citigroup.

Commenting on his appointment, Darren Redmayne, Managing Director of Lincoln International’s London office said:

“Francis is one of the most creative thinkers in the pensions advisory industry.  He has been at the cutting-edge of innovation throughout his career and, as a market-leader in specialist covenant and financial advice to defined-benefit pension schemes, Lincoln International is delighted to be working with him to bring his knowledge, ideas and expertise to our clients.”

Alex Hutton-Mills, Director of Lincoln International added:

“Our pensions business has grown rapidly through exceptional client service and high quality independent advice.  Francis has these attributes in abundance and will help Lincoln International continue to deliver innovative financial advice that meets the needs of pension schemes and corporate sponsors in this challenging economic climate.  It’s great to be working with him again.”
